The Sabbatical Year

Dear S.O.W.E.R.S. Contributors, Future Students, and Loved Ones:

In Leviticus 25, God gives the children of Israel a commandment to keep an entire sabbath year every seventh year. It was a year in which they were not to plant their fields or prune their vineyards. Therefore, even the land was able to rest that year. So, how were they supposed to survive that year?

Leviticus 25:20-22
(20)  And if ye shall say, What shall we eat the seventh year? behold, we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase:
(21)  Then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth fruit for three years.
(22)  And ye shall sow the eighth year, and eat yet of old fruit until the ninth year; until her fruits come in ye shall eat of the old store.

The Church today is not under this law given to the children of Israel. However, there is much to learn from the principle and heart of it. We have been going strong at the S.O.W.E.R.S. Training Program for eight years now. We will finish this year strong. However, after that, it is time to let the training aspect rest for a year, and then pick it back up after the sabbatical. We want to be our best for the students, and sincerely desire to give them the best. If we can regroup and be better for the students in the following year with God’s blessing, then that’s what we’ll do. We are not quitting and we are not shutting the whole thing down. We are simply not open for new students this coming year. We will still be holding fellowships, updating the website, teaching classes, and, yes, the Young Adult Advance is still on!

We are accepting applications for the following year (September 4, 2016 – June 11, 2017).

You can contact me if you have any questions.

With Love,
